Brian’s Journal
Unfortunately, we have not yet re-
ceived our first installment of “Brian’s
Journal” from Africa. We know that it is
taking awhile for Brian and Logan to get
settled in and to learn how best to func-
tion. We also realize that communication
from Africa is not easy, costs money, and
takes time. In the absence of a formal
“Journal,” we have decided to share some
of the letters [edited] we have received
from our two men from the “Top of the
World” [see our May issue]. We are sure
you will find these glimpses into their ad-
venture very interesting. Please try to vi-
sualize yourself in their places. We have
included a letter from Pastor Moses, and
ended with a letter from Pastor Maurice to
help round out the picture for you.
Dear Grandma Esther,
Sorry I haven’t written sooner. This
is the first time we’ve made it to the
email bureau since we’ve arrived at
Glory Center. Things are going very
well for Brian and me here. Neither of
us have gotten sick and the food is
quite good. We are both enjoying our-
selves immensely. They treat us very
well, too well in fact. We told them we
didn’t want to be treated like visitors,
but to learn and to help. They are letting
us do some work, but we’ve given up on
convincing them not to treat us as guests.
We do appreciate their hospitality
very much though.
The situation here at Glory Cen-
ter is both good and bad. The children
here are very happy and well taken care
of but there is a large need for money.
There are children coming every day, but
there is not enough room. Pastor Moses
wants to help them so bad and has ac-
cepted twenty plus children since we’ve
arrived. There is already up to six small
children sleeping in one twin-sized bed.
We’ve given them money to buy a few
more mattresses and they’ve put them on
the floor in any open space inside. They
really need a bigger place! They’ve
looked at two pieces of land to possibly
building a bigger place.
The school also is growing rapidly
and is very full. I’ve helped teach some
classes and found the school supplies to
be very limited. They need more school
supplies especially.
I don’t know what kind of funds
Hearth to Hearth Ministries has, but they
need whatever is available desperately.
Both Brian and I think that Pastor Moses
uses the limited funds that he has wisely.
He loves the children so much and hates
to turn them away. It’s so hard to see so
many children living in such poverty. I
know God has a reason for allowing all
this, but it’s hard to see right now. I hope
and pray that HTHM can provide more
funds so they can help more children.
You can see such a dramatic difference
in the children here and the ones in the
community. I feel so honored to be a part
of this wonderful ministry and see God
working here.
God bless and I’ll try to write soon.
Logan
Dear Mum [Esther],
I can see that surely Brian, it was his
first time to come out of USA to Africa.
Surely all the time the children were
coming to beg food on the door, crying
wanting to come in. When Brian saw
Prisca and Vane with tears he sympa-
thized with them and he was also crying.
Surely, Mum, this is not like Nairobi. We
are in up country where people are suf-
fering and starving. May I assure you
that I have a very difficult situation here.
That is why Brian did all these, but I am
very happy that now he is getting in what
I am telling him. I thank you so much that
you stopped him from doing all these,
but the situation here is very difficult. I
wish you were here to see all these. So
Brian is now doing fine and I asked him
to follow what we have been doing.
Mum, it is very difficult to take these
children back to the streets. We must
show them love and I believe by faith that
God will meet all the needs we have here.
Let us trust in Him. He is a faithful father.
[Note: We had tried to prepare Brian
before he left regarding our concern that
he might not be able to deal with the sight
of so many children starving. He and Lo-
gan are not used to seeing children going
hungry and crying to be let inside so that
they do not have to sleep on the streets.
Obviously, the reality is much worse than
the imagination can portray. Being un-
aware of the financial state of this minis-
try, and desperately wanting to help these
poor children, caution was thrown to the
wind. Before word could get to them from
the States not to bring in any more chil-
dren for lack of money and space to care
for them, the number of new children at
Glory Center had risen to fifty-six.]
I know it is very difficult for you and
for me here to take care of these children,
but to those who have come in just let us
put them in prayer. God loves them too
and He will find a way forward. Let us
just take a step and trust Him. I don’t
know why all these, but God knows.
Mum, put this in prayer. We as man, we
can see this as a difficult situation but
with God all things are possible. Let
us put this burden on Him and He will
give us a rest.
Last time I told you that we had
thirty-one children whom we nor-
mally feed and are in our school but
we did not take them in. But when Brian
came and sympathized with them, they
came in, and because some heard
that children are taken, they came.
And when I went to town, coming
back, I found that some have come in
and I had nothing to do since it was
Brian who took them in and you trusted
him to whatever he will do. But I am
happy that Brian is a good man and it is
now he has understood what our people
are like when they see a white skin. I
think you are aware of that. So the total
new number of children that are in now
is fifty-six. It is a very big number but all
we leave to God.
I am going to figure out all that we
have purchased. We have bought ten mat-
tresses and ten beds. He also bought some
things for the school and some small
things for the children since they were
back and so many needs were there. I
hope Logan and Brian are straight and
honest men. They are very soft in their
hearts and very loving and I hope that is
why all these happened and I did not un-
derstand exactly what to do since they
were sent from you. Since you phoned

Logan on left, with brothers Linden and Jordan, and
sister Miriam, shortly before leaving for Africa.
