Mother Teresa's Children
Home
-9-
give them shelter through Teresa, but
we ask you to see how you will feed
them and clothe them and educate
them.”
On August 18 I received the follow-
ing report from Logan:
“It is going fairly well here at Good
Samaritan Home. They are progressively
becoming more independent from Hope
Center. Pastor is helping them with food
because the money is not enough. With
the money you just sent they bought mat-
tresses, blankets, two lamps, and the rest
was saved for food. This money was
much needed and appreciated.
“Teresa is doing a wonderful job
caring for these children. She spends all
her time caring for them
and it is evident that she
loves them deeply. She is
assisted by a lady named
Monica who helps with
kitchen duties and with
the children. Moses also
spends all his time here
and is very much dedi-
cated to this project. He is
the one you will be com-
municating with and he
will also be keeping the reports. He also
assists Teresa by managing the children
and picking up supplies for her. He will
need at least $35 a month for traveling to
send emails and for the cost at the email
bureaus. All the workers are volunteers
and he can’t afford this out of his own
pocket. There is also a man named
Solomon who hauls water every day for
Teresa. All our workers here receive
meals only and no pay.
“I talked with Pastor and he said
there was plenty of land here for the
buildings we need to put up. If we run out
of room, Teresa’s grandmother-in-law
owns land touching hers that we can
probably use. She is already letting
Teresa use a plot for a garden. Teresa has
several good-sized gardens to assist them
with food. She also has several fruit trees
like mangoes, oranges, and passion fruit.
She used to have a small pineapple plan-
tation, but did not have the resources to
keep it up. She also owns some chickens
and a few sheep and goats. The land
where she has her home is very nice, with
shade trees and room for the children to
play. There is also a field on the grand-
mother’s land where the children play
football [soccer].
“The children get up quite early in
the morning for school. Right now they
have a few weeks off for break, so they
are spending their days playing and as-
sisting Mother Teresa. The older boys
work in the gardens in the early morning
hours and the girls assist in the kitchen.
They receive porridge every morning for
breakfast and their lunch and supper usu-
ally consist of ugali and greens, or rice
and beans. A few days a week they re-
ceive meat or eggs for supper. In the eve-
ning, all the
children gather
in a circle for
singing and worship. When they are fin-
ished, Moses or Teresa escort some of
them to the school where most of the chil-
dren sleep.
“There are two small buildings at the
school where the children sleep on mats
on the floor. A few now have mattresses
and they have almost enough blankets for
all to have their own. The young children
sleep on the floor in Teresa’s home.
There are a few boys, Moses, and myself,
who sleep in a vacant home touching
Teresa’s property. The owners are in Nai-
robi and they gave Teresa
permission to use their home
for now.
“All in all, I think they
are ready to start building
whenever you are. They are
definitely crowded and need
new buildings badly. Things
should be easier for you now
that Moses will be communi-
cating with you. I told him he
will need to go to the emails
once a week and turn in the
financial records by the end
of the month. He is still new
to the computer, so be patient with him.
He will be going with Pastor to the
emails, so he can receive assistance
when necessary.”
They are ready when we are. Are we
ready?
Help on the way
Just this week I received the follow-
ing email:
“My name is Justyna. I am living in
Denmark in Europe and I have heard
about your mission. I want to help and I
need some more info about how to do it.
Could you tell me
what are the options in
helping. I would like
to print some material
here in Denmark and
give something to peo-
ple here so that they
can help also. Do you
have any material that
could be helpful con-
cerning the text? Me
and my boyfriend
want to offer some
money as fast as possi-
ble. Please answer as
fast as you can.”
There is also a group in Australia
who has been raising money and sending
it to help with the needs of this ministry,
and we have also just heard from a cou-
ple in Hungary who became familiar
with our work through friends in Poland.
As with Mother Teresa, our hands
are empty. We need to build two orphan-
ages: one for the Good Samaritan Home
and one for Glory Center. In addition,
we need to continue meeting the needs
